Five to Thrive

  1. Strategy provides context.  What is yours?
  2. Change is continuous.  Can your strategy cope?
  3. You are customer driven.  Does this make you a leader?
  4. Like you, your rivals claim to be "the best."  How are you unique?
  5. "The ability to perceive or think differently is more important than the knowledge gained." - David Bohm (physicist)

Five to thrive... because just surviving is not a strategy

Is your company doing all it can to thrive, or are you merely hoping to survive?  Is your goal to hunker down and wait out the storm, or do you want to create first-mover advantage in your current markets as you position your company for the economic recovery?

And what about markets that you have never considered because you do not see a connection to your products and services, even though a fresh look may identify new opportunities?  Will you explore them now and develop a strategy to capture them, or will you ignore and lose them?

To help you thrive, I provide:
  • Market Visioning (Please click here for a review)
  • IT-Business Synergy
  • Business Development
  • Strategic Communications

Often, the most effective first step is for me to lead a wide-ranging, free-wheeling, everything-is-on-the-table discussion with your company's executive officers.  An outsider brings perception and thinking that is not trapped within the experiences (especially the successes) and processes of your organization.  Without this, it is virtually impossible to create the radical transformation required for creating uniqueness and leaping ahead.  It is the only way to escape the "this is how we do it here" attitude that leads to stagnation.

In other words, while what you don't know can hurt you, what you do know can kill you!  This truism was best stated by these eminent thinkers:

  • "Familiarity brings complacency." - David Halberstam in his book, The Reckoning
  • "In order to gain knowledge, add something every day.  To gain wisdom, get rid of something every day." - Lau-Tsu, founder of Taoism
  • "When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right.  When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong." - Arthur C. Clarke
  • "In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few. - Zen master Suziki Roshi (Keep this in mind the next time you are listening to an "expert")
